Gonabadian painter has created a new style in painting that’s unparalleled to any other styles in the world.
As ISNA reported, Mansur Mahdizade has been painting on thatch that is a combination of chaff and soil, using some glues and colors for many years, these exhibited paintings are pictures of life in the desert, his art has been used on the walls of cities and universities in much bigger scales.
“in 1374 (solar) I went to see my professor Dr. Iraj Skandari who is currently the head of college of visual art in Tehran for my thesis (master of art) in Tehran’s university of art and I picked Islamic architecture painting of south Khorasan for my project.” Said the Gonabadian painter to ISNA commenting on his style of painting, he continued;
“after that my professor proposed painting on thatch and that was only the beginning of achieving great success.”
Mahdizade declared that any other structure except thatch is rejected in this style of painting, he said; “at first this style wasn’t accepted by the people but with changing the color it was welcomed by them”
He also added, “this year I could reach my ideal realistic color so this caused the classical architecture to be seen better and more realistic, accordingly in world there are no other that does painting on the thatch other than me in Gonabad.

“the biggest thatch paintings of the world (24 meters in 2\5 meters’ width) was conducted on the yard of Gonabad’s Islamic Azad university and I’m proud to say that since this piece is beautiful students take care of the painting on their own.” Said Mr. Mahdizade.
With mentioning his decision about making his painting more popularized he reiterated; “I would like to apply my style on smaller scales and convenient to use on the walls of peoples’ houses.”
Mahdizade explained that; “if a person decides that he like my style of art and would like to have a sample of it in his room to enjoy it, it would be a success for me, people used to ask me to paint them smaller panels but I thought thatch paintings are more magnificent in greater scales but I’ve changed my mind”
